Tony Bingham - Barrister, LLB(Hons), FCIArb, FCIOB, FASI, MRICS, MInstCES
Had it not been for a very canny Member of Parliament, who stayed up all night, we wouldn't have got one of the most effective cash flow pills ever. And if it hadn't been for a bunch of Welsh coal miners being paid £300 each to swallow a little blue pill, we would not have gained the ultimate serendipitous discovery which became a multi-billion pound dysfunction remedy. It all happened in 1998 and 25 years on, Tony Bingham proposes to take a look at what has happened since.
The adjudication landscape has changed over those 25 years. What we thought we were getting has taken on a life of its own and is now the premier system of resolving disputes in the construction industry. Tony has been at the vanguard of practitioners throughout that complete journey.
Tony Bingham was previously a QS and a builder, and is now a barrister, adjudicator, arbitrator and mediator. He has written a popular legal column in the Building Magazine for the last 35 years and has been appointed to decide more than 800 construction disputes. He is still learning about the little blue pill.
NB: This meeting is being run in association with the RICS as part of its initiative to establish a Local Members' Groups in Bucks, Berks and Oxon. Both we, Tony and the venue hosts, EMW LLP Solicitors, look forward to meeting as many of you as possible, Face-2-Face.
